Masculinity was the main idea behind Maison Martin Margiela AW10  collection. The usual subversive plays and tricks are to be expected  with patterns ranging from stripes to checks, prints and white  finishings. Reversible duffle coats and trench coats, classic cut wool  pants, nappa leather t-shirts and replica biker jackets were key pieces  that accentuated the strong male silhouette.

On view through November 27, 2010 at Osaka’s CAS, Mitsuhiro Okamoto’s “Batta Mon” sculptures raise questions about the relationship between authenticity and imitation. The shaped works are produced from fake designer bags – with logos prominent – and the name plays off of the slang term for knock off.

Okamoto’s work was previously displayed at the Kobe Fashion Museum, but removed after Louis Vuitton protested pieces containing their brand logo.

I'm no graphic designer but this attempt is terrible even for a rookie!

The tangerine color of the font look washed out and the gradient grey is so 1995.
The lack of symmetry between the two words is a terrible choice it looks like Word Art from Microsoft Office, is Adobe Illustrator overrated??
Then why two different fonts?
Why the curve?!?

The only thing that comes to my mind is that now brands are going to use crappy redesigned logo attempts just to call attention???

Is that the new trend in graphic design and branding????

The “tweet-o-meter”  displays real-time tweets in nine cities around the world, from  San  Francisco to London. It's  more than 10 feet long about the size of a  small car. It’s how Twitter would look ... on the Titanic.

The tweet-o-meter was designed and devloped at the Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis, at the University College London, as a way to visualize Twitter rates in major urban centers. It mines a 30-kilometer radius from the center of each city and displays the output on ammeters in tweets per minute. The data's used to make maps of cities social networking behavior, like so:

Paul Marciano and Ellen von Unwerth reunite for Autumn/Winter 2010/11 GUESS Campaign

For Autumn/Winter 2010/11, GUESS unveils an iconic advertising campaign using world renowned photographer Ellen von Unwerth, who shot the classic GUESS campaigns of the 1980's and 1990's including famed GUESS models Claudia Schiffer, Carre Otis, and Eva Herzigova.

Shot in black and white, the GUESS Autumn campaign goes back to one of GUESS' and Unwerth's classic shoots by revisiting Tennessee, where Unwerth first shot Claudia Schiffer in 1989. Over 20 years later, GUESS lands in Memphis, the birthplace of rock 'n' roll. The campaign story follows three rebels as they embark on a road trip to Memphis and try and make their mark in the music scene. The trio, Elsa Hosk, who first appeared in the GUESS Spring/Summer 2007 campaign, Alyssa Miller, who appeared in the GUESS by Marciano Spring/Summer 2010 campaign and is the face of the new fragrance along with GUESS SeductiveGUESS campaign newcomer, Silviu Tolu, are the perfect individuals to showcase the latest collection from GUESS.

The images transport the viewer back the 1950's, where the stars go through a transformation from the quintessential girl/guy next door into a rock star. Gingham plaids, nautical stripes, bustier style tops and classic denim jackets and jeans are the core of the fall 2010 collection. As the girls take on an edgier, more rocker look, the jeans make way to cut-off shorts and peddle pushers emanating the GUESS girl image that the brand has been built upon.

According to a juicy little tidbit in this morning’s WWD, in the print ads for Chloé’s new fragrance, Love, Chloé, Raquel Zimmermann is wearing a YSL belt. That’s YSL, not Chloé, that the face of the fragrance, launched this past September, is wearing. And of course, these are the print ads that have been blown up on billboards.

I feel horrible for the stylist or whomever is going to take the rap for this one. The blunder is “causing a bit of embarrassment, to put it mildly,” WWD is reporting.

The French designer—known for his edgy tailoring, love of leather, and  decidedly high fashion following, is now bringing that risqué touch to the  home. His furnishings collaboration with French interiors firm Roche  Bobois centers on a modular couch featuring the designer's signature  tattoo prints, nautical stripes, and portrait of (almost) lip-locked  lovers. For Gaultier, the return to interiors (he collaborated with  France's VIA on Roman-style armchairs in 1992) is not much of a jump, as  he told the New York Post last week: "For me, life is all about self-expression, whether it's on your body or in your home."you can see a preview of the collection here

While FEMEN ambushed executives in their corporate lair (or attended a conference, whichever sounds more exciting to you) wearing hardhats, heels and not much else to demand equal wages for women, FEMEN fakes appeared elsewhere. The badly-bondage-styled copycats were touting the FEMEN logo around and posing with homeless people. Their photos turned up the blog of Artemy Lebedev, famous Russia’s designer/technology pioneer who gets enough topless email to fill regular LiveJournal updates. Beware the knock-offs!

His name is Mathias Modica, he's a successful producer and dj and along Telonius he created one of the most representative labels of the German dance scene: Gomma. This label runs artists like Le Le, Moullinex, The Phenomenal Handclap Band, WhoMadeWho and Mathias' own project Munk.

Mingling and collaborating with guys like James Murphy (LCD Soundystem and DFA's mastermind) Munk managed to create unforgettable disco songs that captivated listeners and mapped Mathias in the international dance scene.
Munk's latest single "La Musica" caught Karl Lagerfeld's attention and appeared on his latest short film "Remember Now" in a remix version made by German dj Shir Khan.

After two years of inactivity and since Munk's latest release "Cloudbuster" in 2008, Mathias is ready to make his comeback in the scene with a new promising EP named "Mondo Vagabondo" which will include the above mentioned song and will hit stores around the globe in October 18th. Mixing genres like Italo house, dance and psychedelic rock we can expect a huge deal from this upcoming EP and from this amazingly talented artist.

Prestigious Oxford English Dictionary -- which, as AOL News reported last month, is exceptionally picky about the words it lets in -- the single-book Oxford Dictionary of English (ODE) is based on how the English language is used in everyday life. Logophiles at the Oxford University Press decide on the new entries for the ODE by perusing an online database of over 2 billion words, harvested from magazines, novels, Internet chat rooms and a stack of other sources.

Italian Vogue was created in 1964 with the name of Novità , then it became Vogue Novità and finally Vogue. Since the very first issues, great photographers have been hired for photo shoots. Always the most important of their time. Italian Vogue has always represented quality and given prominence to creativity, besides being an irreplaceable testimony of fashion in the various decades. Italian Vogue therefore owns a very important digital archive, since 1964 up to today, which is constantly updated.

The archive is divided into headings. Photographers, designers, celebrities, makeup artists, hairstylists, fashion. Fashion entries are further divided according to product themes: coats, shirts, skirts, dresses, evening dresses, foulards, shoes, bags, and so on. In each sector you will find years and months of publication, with references to designers, hairstylists, makeup artists and photographers.

Consulting the archive is a simple and straight-forward procedure, to make research easier, be it a research on a personality, on a fashion theme, or on a photographer. The documentation gathered so far is endless, and it allows people to go through a designer's creative evolution, and also to compare the changes in a photographer's style in the course of time.

It's essential to go over the careers of famous personalities - like actors, directors and writers - to reconstruct some history chapters, which would otherwise inevitably go forgotten in time.

Looking through fashion trends that influenced the style of entire generations, whilst examining how they come up again - even in a shameless way, because at times they are proper copies of the past - is very interesting also for a research on customs. And the same goes for hairstyles, makeup, and most of all accessories.

The Archive in not accessible to everyone, only to in-house authorized people, such as photo editors or editors who need to do some research in order to give the photographer of the photo shoot some references to images  and trends.

Everyday on Vogue.it website archive photos are uploaded, to highlight either a current trend, or the past style of a celebrity, or the inspiration for a makeup or a hairstyle. Search the various channels, like Trends, Stars or Beauty.

Also university students have often gained access to the archive, if they were to write their final dissertation on Italian Vogue. Vogue Community is considering giving access to the archive to future members. Up to today this is still a project, we will update you on it. For the moment search our website to find the images from the past.

For the Women’s Autumn/Winter 2010/11 collection Jil Sander focuses on the timeless appeal of the power women. A radical redefinition of daywear, renovating the look of executive tailoring and conceiving a paradigm of cuts, patterns and surfaces. The contrast between transparency and solidness creates a new aesthetic that conjugates the vocabulary of confidence and fragility.

The Autumn/Winter 2010/11 advertising campaign – photographed by Willy Vanderperre – stars model Kasia Struss (already face of Jil Sander in the previous seasons) and cover girl Miranda Kerr. To represent the tailored yet contemporary look of the Menswear collection – Raf Simons casts Aiden Andrews, who most recently walked the Spring/Summer 2011 runway show. The campaign, shot in Paris in April 2010, evolves in cooperation with stylist Olivier Rizzo, hair stylist Paul Hanlon and make-up artist Peter Phillips.

And now these devils of the electronics industry, these merchants of death, have encroached their greasy hands upon my most favorite of modern inventions: The Bicycle.

Yep, some moronic, short-sighted eggheads at MIT have created the Bike 2.0 with the Smartwheel. A wheel that STORES KINETIC ENERGY FROM BRAKING and SAVES IT FOR ACCELERATING BOOSTS. Oh, and it also works in par with an iPod that snaps onto the handlebar/headset to provide a GPS, physiological information, and of course music.

Simple creative solutions are always fun and bring a smile to our faces. As someone who has done his fair share of moving, the X Tape product by mmiinn, would have definitely put me in a better state while moving. The clever and inventive minds of Jeong-Min Lee & Hyoung-Min Park of mmiinn, a design collective based in Seoul, South Korea, give tape an optical illusion of strength and security by printing a repetitive color image of hinges onto the 50mm by 45m tape.

This fun idea gives the boxes a nice hardware as they are sealed tight with the tape adhesive. Visualizing the closure through the image strengthens your perception of the products function. Simple, clever, inventive and fun! This is the first work of the X Tape series but they plan on growing the collection by late Fall.

From 8 September 2010 until 13 February 2011, the MoMu–Fashion Museum in Antwerp will present a retrospective exhibition of the work of British milliner Stephen Jones. This autumn, Jones celebrates the 30th anniversary of his House, "Stephen Jones Millinery". MoMu will mark that anniversary with an exceptional exhibition. The MoMu–Fashion Museum houses the largest collection of Stephen Jones hats – more than 120 items – outside Great Britain, thanks to a long-term loan by the Antwerp private collectors, Geert Bruloot and Eddy Michiels.
